Everything is going wonderfully with the musical acts who are performing at Lovell's of Lake Forest. Please note that we are not currently looking for any more groups, bands, duos, or solo performers. Auditions are closed. Late August 2011 Update
The remaining days of August have been wonderful weather-wise for the most part. As we bridge into September, the chances to see Bobby & Steve perform live are still a certainty. First of all, Steve Wall will be performing solo at a new venue for The Bobby Rex Group: Bella Luna Pizzeria & Bar in Glendale Heights. The exact address is 136 East Army Trail Road, Glendale Heights, IL. Steve will be starting at about 7:30pm. This is a preview for the Saturday September 10th performance here by both Bobby & Steve. We really want to help Bella Luna the best we can, so please come out to one of these dates, or both! View their menu online.
Thursday Sept. 1st Bobby & Steve will be performing at the rehearsal dinner party for BJ Wall and his fiance Hillary Stein in Oak Park. Congratulations to the wonderful couple! Bobby & Steve will also be performing at Lovell's of Lake Forest on the Saturday night Sept. 3rd. Start time is 8pm. We are just wrapping up 7 years of performing in the Captain's Quarters regularly, and looking forward to starting the 8th year in late October. Sunday afternoon September 4th Bobby & Steve find themselves entertaining at the 41st Annual Schaumburg Septemberfest. On Sunday Sept. 4th Bobby & Steve will be performing at the dining tent stage from 2:30 to 4:30pm. Acts on the main stage that night will be Heartsfield at 6pm and The Fabulous Thunderbirds with Kim Wilson at 8:30. There will be fun for the whole family and the Taste of Schaumburg will be in full swing on the grounds. Admission is Free!!
Friday night Sept. 9th Bobby & Steve will be back at the Weber Grill Restaurant in Lombard. Look for Bobby & Steve in Smokey Joe's Bar with the tall ceiling off to the right as you enter the building. The 5 booths along the wall always get filled up fast so come out early and often! Start time is 6pm! TVs will be showing sports. Domain DuPage in the bottle is served along with Fat Tire, Matilda, & Stella. Bell's Oberon is still on tap - good lordy! We've made some great friends here over the past 6 months. Saturday Sept 10th is the big Bella Luna Pizzeria & Bar gig in Glendale Heights. This one has Bobby & Steve performing from 8pm until midnight. They have great thin crust pizza, gnocchi, linguine in clam sauce, antipasta, and many other delectables at Bella Luna. Full bar service into the late night!
Stay tuned for more news in September. Mostly performing live is where it's at these days. Song writing and original music releases have been put on hold for the time being while live performances help pay the bills. August 2011 Sunshine Days
July came and went with 12 shows plus several open mic appearances. Lots of fun times were had and many memories were shared and created. Why stop now, I say! August is in full swing and there are many more reasons to enhance the upcoming experiences with live music.
Olympia Fields Country Club Cabana from 7 to 10pm on Fri. August 12th will be such a joy. The full moon will be in its full glory. Saturday night the place for dinner and drinks from 7 to 10pm will be J. Fleming's Absolutely Delicious in Westmont. This will be our first time at this wonderful restaurant. Bobby & Steve will be performing al fresco. Thank you to Sue O'Connell at Crescendo Music for the night.
If there was only one night to ever come out in 2011 to see Bobby Rex perform, TUESDAY AUGUST 16 at SALT CREEK WINE BAR in Brookfield would be the one! Many requests will be taken and at least 12 original songs will be performed through the night. Some possible special guests. Performance starts at 7:30pm. No cover charge. Some really great wine and beer selections available along with cheeses and sandwiches into the night. Open ended in terms of when the music's over. Consider this a CD RELEASE PARTY for the remastered Brand New Freak recordings EP. Hope to see many good friends. Weber Grill restaurant has been very good to us this summer. This is our only performance here in August. Sorry for the miscommunication between myself, Joey DeMarco and The Alley Highwood as Bobby Rex will not be performing at The Alley on this night.

Always a pleasure to perform here. The atmosphere is just right for great food and music in the Captain's Quarters. This performance is from 8 to 11:30pm.

Brand New Freak Now Available for Digital Download!
On Wednesday May 25, 2011 the Bobby Rex EP (with bonus tracks) was formally made available on iTunes and cdbaby. The first three songs: Brand New Freak, Free Yet, and Sweet Potato were initially made available in 1992 on cassette, but have never been available for digital download until now. Fillin' Station and Clarendon Hills Road had never been realeased anywhere up until now. Deep Blue Sea a sea chanty of public domain had been recorded by a few artists over the years and was recorded here by Bobby Rex in 2010 before the St. Denis "all grades" reunion as a sort of novelty homage to Mr. Degrees, the 7th grade science teacher who used to perform the tune on banjo occasionally for his students during his 18 year stretch at the school. All six songs on this release were re-mastered for digital distribution by Larry Kriz and Bobby Rex at LNL Recording Studio in Elgin, IL.

May 2011 Full Weekends and More
Lot's of shows all around this month so let's get right to it: Friday night May 6th at 7:30pm Bobby & Steve will be doing a performance at All Wined Up on Prospect Ave. in downtown Clarendon Hills. If you've been waiting for us to play closer to where you live, here we are! No admission at this wonderful wine tasting bar. Bar only open until 10pm so come out early!
Lovell's of Lake Forest Captian's Quarters is our next stop on Saturday May 7th at 8pm. Here we play until 11:30pm. No cover charge or minimums. Reservations always helpful in guaranteeing a seat at this wonderful steak house along the north shore.
On Wednesday afternoon May 11th from 11:30am to 1:30pm Bobby will be performing solo at Michael's on Main Cafe inside the Citicorp building at 8430 Bryn Mawr in Chicago just south of the highway near O'Hare. This is an upscape lunch cafe and caters to the many businesses within and around this complex.
Dao Sushi in Burr Ridge on Friday May 13th will be our next duo performance date. Bobby & Steve will be performing at this fantastic Thai & Sushi Restaurant for the first time. Performance is 7:30 to 10:30. Kitchen is open late. Bar serves many wonderful beverages and is becoming a great meeting place for the Burr Ridge locals who enjoy night life. No admission charge. Food is terrific.
Saturday night May 14th the Bobby Rex Group (Bobby & Steve with Gary Gibula on upright bass) will be performing for a private function at the Olympia Fields Country Club. Call Bobby at 708-415-6410 for a booking at your next event!
Friday night May 20th the duo of Bobby & Paul will be at the Weber Grill in Lombard from 6 to 9pm for the return engagement. Last month's performance here went so well the duo was added to the Friday night music rotation. Performance is in "Smokey Joe's Bar" which is to the right as you enter the restaurant. They really cook everything on Weber Grills which you can see as you walk through the dining room. Reservations in bar not neccessary, but helpful by calling 630-953-8800.
Saturday night May 21st Bobby and Special Guest will be performing at Lovell's of Lake Forest in the Captain's Quarters. More information upcoming regarding the special guest.
Friday night May 27th Bobby Rex Duo will be back at Olde Tyme Inn in Sandwich, Illinois starting at 8:30pm. It's been over 3 years since Bobby performed at this fun bar and is glad to be welcomed back! Steve will be out of town on this Memorial Day Friday (working in China! For real!) so Grateful Gary Gibula will be Bobby's duo partner for the evening. More information to follow regarding instrumentation and set list. Cheap beer and good friends! Ya gotta love it.

April 2011 Busy Performance Month
This month starts out with Bobby & Steve at Lovell's of Lake Forest on Saturday April 2nd from 8:00 to 11:30. Thursday April 7th Bobby is performing during lunch 11am - 1pm at Michael's on Main Cafe at 6133 N. River Road, Rosemont, IL (Riverway Business Complex). Friday evening April 8th Bobby & Steve will be performing at Weber Grill in Lombard / Oak Brook from 6 to 9pm. Saturday night April 16th Bobby & Steve will be back at Lovell's for more musical fun in that wonderful room called the Captain's Quarters. Saturday night April 23rd starting at 7:30pm Biff and the Waybacks will be "Jammin' For A Cure", a fundraiser benefit for the American Cancer Society at Millrose Restaurant in South Barrington just north of I-90. Donation of $10 per person includes two raffle tickets, & entertainment by BIFF & The Waybacks. Biff and the Waybacks are; Bobby Rex, Paul Allodi, Steve Wall and Tom Malec. Full bar & food service available. Saturday night April 30th starting at 9pm, The Bobby Rex Trio is back at the Olympia Fields Country Club for a rockin' good time as the golf season is formally kicked off.
Also in April 2011 expect Bobby to perform at these open mic sessions: Monday night Apr. 4th 9pm at the Salt Creek wine bar in Brookfield, IL run by Scott Sherman, Wednesday night 9pm at The Sanctuary in Brookfield, IL run by Ted Aliotta and Friends, and Tuesday April 12th at 9:30pm Vino Tinto in Oak Lawn on 95th Street run by Nick Gonzalez.
Look for Bobby at "All Wined Up" a wonderful and cozy wine shop and tasting bar in downtown Clarendon Hills on Friday May 6th starting at 7:30pm. No cover charge.
Bobby is now also accepting guitar students for instruction during the day.
This Saturday Night at Lovell's
Saturday March 12 starting at 8pm at Lovell's of Lake Forest will be Chris Grant on fiddle and mandolin, Gary Gibula on upright bass & vocals, and Bobby Rex on vocals and guitar. We're calling our act the Sprig O' Mint Trio. We will be performing some traditional Irish music and songs such as: Morrison's Jig, Swallow Tail Jig, Drowsy Maggie, Kesh Jig, Sailor's Hornpipe, and the Irish Washerwoman Song. Some Irish drinking songs will include: Whiskey In the Jar, Drink It Up Men, Mountain Dew, Jug of Punch, and Whiskey You're the Devil. Other traditional songs include: Deep Blue Sea, Shady Grove, and Rocky Top. We'll also be covering Van Morrison, U2, John Denver, and The Band among other Irish and "not-so-Irish" artists. Never a cover charge or a drink minimum at Lovell's. Dinner is served until 10pm. Reservations helpful to guarantee a seat. Dancing is known to break out during the last set. Drinks are served until midnight.
